From The President |
Dear Members,
When I joined the club under our former name - PMIQ - I was keen to come for the purpose of meeting like-minded project managers and professionals, and at the same time hearing them speak on topics related to the profession of project management. While the name has changed, the premise of the club has not, and I invite you all to join in on the journey to making us the most professional Toastmaster's club in Brisbane, if not farther.
Our meetings are going to carry a theme. Quite un-original in nature, we are going to use the PMBOK's Knowledge Areas to drive those themes. We are going to ask that participants offering to fulfill roles for the meeting tailor their exercises to the theme of the day, and, while not a requirement, hopefully even the speeches you present will have some relevance to the topic as well. The themes are already laid out across our coming year of meetings and we will remind you of the upcoming theme at the end of every meeting as well as on all of our materials (Easy-Speak, emails, etc.).
I am also a firm believer in the concept that if we don't have an open and honest exchange about what we are doing right, and what we can improve upon, then we will not achieve that next level of accomplishment. To this I am encouraging anyone who wants to receive in-depth observations to encourage their evaluator to "let me have it!". To support this effort I have written up a template for evaluation that I have wanted to write up for myself for quite some time now. It basically has all the essentials of good speaking habits along the top so that I don't have to bother taking notes about them and instead can focus my observation on the particulars of the speech that stood out to me. We will have extra copies of this template at every meeting and I encourage anyone who likes its format to ask your evaluator to include it in their assessment.
At the close of every meeting I want for every member to walk out of the room with a sense of accomplishment. Whether you re-learned something, were reminded of situations or scenarios, thought of questions that you would like to explore further, or simply learned something new, you should feel as though your time here was spent inspiring the professional desire to learn and maintain the very skills that you spent so much time perfecting, all while affording you the opportunity to learn to speak articulately and confidently in a professional manner.
Welcome to the new SCALE! |

The Toastmasters Mission A statement of shared values
Every Toastmasters club shares the same mission, clearly defined in the following mission statement:
We provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth.
Through this mission, each Toastmaster gains a clear understanding of the club's purpose, and the organization as a whole benefits from a shared set of values and goals.
